Tiari Zora, whose name means light of dawn, has lived a dark, lonely, and isolated life. Until the mysterious and powerful Lady Techu comes to her tiny hut in the forest and tells her that she is the fabled Maiden of the Sun, and invites her to join the Orb Quest. From that moment, Tiari’s closed, dark world is exchanged for a life of light, and also one of adventure and danger. As the only person who can retrieve the Orb of the Sun, one of the three orbs required to save the entire planet from being overwhelmed by an invasion of deadly demons from the dark and nightmarish underworld they inhabit, Tiari must reach inside herself for both courage, and trust. Each day brings new experiences to Tiari that she could never have imagined from her dark hut, both beautiful and terrible. Not even the vicious demons that continually attack the caravan, that must be repelled with bow, sword, spear, and staff, are enough to make her regret her choice. And, for the first time in her life, she earns the love and friendship of others the stern but inspirational leadership of Prince Zakiel, the kindly guidance of the Lady Techu, the warm, sisterly love of Princess Kapia, even the chilly regard of Nikura the Sphin, the sarcastic, intelligent cat-like creature that only Lady Techu can communicate with. And then there are the decidedly un-sisterly feelings she has for Sir Tomas, Close Cousin of the Prince, feelings that he reciprocates in abundance, opening another world even brighter and more exciting than the physical world she found beyond the door of her tiny prison--the world of love. As the Quest faces ever increasing dangers scheming Djinn from the demon world, the plots of Marene, once King Rhobar’s beautiful ward, now a demonic entity, and demon attackers that now show signs of operating under some sort of guiding intelligence, Tiari and Tomas must struggle to overcome the barriers to their love stemming from Tiari's total inexperience with human relationships, much less romantic ones. While the budding love between Tomas and Tiari blossoms, Kapia continues to struggle with her own fear and worry for her life long love, Sir Bredon. Will he find a way to throw off Marene’s horrifying presence in his mind and body? Will the mysteries of Darkly Fen provide the solutions Marene promises? Or will the evil that dwells within the dark and forbidding fog that surrounds it mark the end of Sir Bredon, forever? Quest for the Sun Orb is a rich treat for the fans of Laura Jo Phillips, containing all of the goodies that they expect interesting and well-developed characters, an involving and complex story full of twists, turns, intrigue, and excitement, an epic adventure painted with broad brush strokes on the huge, bright canvas of a fascinating alien world, a love story that takes the reader on a deeply involving emotional journey, and the rich, evocative description of the passion with which that love is finally and beautifully consummated. Quest for the Sun Orb is a full length 119,000 word novel, and is the second volume of the Orbs of Rathira Trilogy.

I debated for quite a while on whether I should give this book a 3 or 4 star rating. I decided to go with 4 because as a series, it's worth more than 3 stars. I really enjoyed the first book in the series. This book was great as well, but there were a number of problems that were just a little too easily glossed over for me.

I'm not writting a synopsis since that can be found elsewhere.

Here are some of the problems I had with this book. Warning, there may be some spoilers.
After spending the entire first novel being a petty jerk, Tomas makes a complete 180 in about 5 minutes. On top of that, 45 seconds after making his complete 180, everyone around him realizes it and they all suddenly like him even though he's been a total a$$ for his entire life. The other problem I had was that everything comes just a little too easily for all the characters. The new orb maiden has spent her entire life looked in the darkness but has absolutely no problems going out into the world with a group of strangers. The characters have little depth in this book. It's like they lost something since the last book where they all had facets to their personalities. Now, they're all perfect and understanding and do everything for everyone. They're pretty one dimensional in this book.

Still , despite the problems it was a pretty good book. The story advances. We learn a bit more about what happened 1000 years ago. I can't really say much else without giving away too many spoilers. Regardless of the problems I had with the book, it was still much better than many other books out there. If you enjoyed the first one, or you enjoy fantasy quest type stories, you should pick up this book.

Quest for the Sun Orb Orbs of Rathira Volume 2 Laura Jo Phillips 9781482690316 Books Reviews

Ms. Phillips has created a wonderful second environment with Rathira. This series should be read in sequence as the each 'quest' relies upon what has transpired with the previous.
Good read but not as compelling as her other novels. Nonetheless, Laura Jo Phillips writes an engaging story and I look forward to the next Orb quest novels.
liked the take off from the Soul Linked series and hope maybe we will get an update on them in the last book of this series... really enjoyed the story lines.
I have read all of Ms. Phillips books because she continues to write winners! She gives you tons of suspence, action and romance! I can't wait for her next Orbs of Rathira and her Thousand-World book! KEEP THEM COMING!!!!
I liked this book. But of the Thousand World books, I liked it the least. I thought the heroine was both too naive and too knowledgeable. She needed to be one or the other. And I already didn't like her love interest from the previous book. Even so, I don't regret purchasing or reading. Just not my fav of LJ's books.
This is a very good book. The characters are very believable and the story is very well written. There is a lot of drama, adventure, suspense in places and love. The sex are incorporated into love scenes and flow well with the story. Looking forward to more from this author and series.
First let me explain the rating. Any other author would have gotten five stars, but I hold Ms. Phillips to a higher standard and almost gave her three - so I split the difference. I am actually a big fan and have been since the beginning, I find her work to be a wonderful escape into an adventure with yummy heroes.

This book starts right where the Quest for the Moon Orb stops. I'd highly recommend reading that first as it covers a lot of back story.
My biggest issue with this book was the flow of it. It was almost like she was trying to tell two stories at once, following the good guys and the "unknown element". I have the feeling she was setting things up for the last book in the trilogy, but it just gave me a very slow disconnected feel while reading it. - STILL she created an epic adventure and does remain on my auto buy list.
